As of yet, there have been no studies conducted on the possible threats of this species and this species has also not been listed under the IUCN Red List as no assessment has occurred for categorisation.

It is speculated that possible threats to this species could include bottom trawling, which digs up the sediment in order to gain its catch. Climate change could also influence this species depending on their thermal tolerance range and the impact of temperature on reproduction rates. Increased storms which stir up sediment as a result of a changing climate may also adversely impact this species as their soft body offers very little protection to being thrown around in turbulent waters.
