A, B and C show different intensities of fluorescence (low, medium and high, respectively) in a DAPI stain assay. A has a higher proportion of dark regions (nucleolus), suggesting that ribosome synthesis is an major process that takes places in the inner side of the polyps. Also important for response to stimuli (e.g. light). C has a larger proportion of green (nucleus), so it is likely responsible for cellular division and growth. An intermediate intensity shown in B (two cells are dark, two are green) suggests migration and maturation of cells across different layers. Scale bar = 100 um.
