Marine taxa of Heron Island
Of the 35 current animal phyla, all but one (Onychophora, the velvet worms) have marine representatives. Indeed, many phyla are exclusively marine. Most phyla can be found on Heron Island Reef on the southern Great Barrier Reef. Students in this class have characterised a very small proportion of the total invertebrate diversity of Heron Island Reef. To discover what they have found click on a specific phylum, class or group to the left.
