Figure 10. A barnacle has six pairs of cirri. The cirral fan consists of the last three pairs of cirri (IV-VI) and they are involved in capturing food particles. The first three pairs (I-III) do not form the cirral fan but they aid in food transfer. (Adapted form Anderson 1994).
