Defence

Predation upon sea anemones has been known to occur from some fish and nudibranchs.  Acontia is extruded by some species, and possibly this species, as a form of anti-predator defence, where the acontia contain large nematocyst cells that are detachable and can be discharged into the predator and injected with toxins.  More details regarding acontia can be found on the Internal Morphology & Physiology page.
