Evolution & Systematics
Within the Calcinus genus, colour patterns are veryimportant in the delineations of species (Malay & Paulay 2010). Calcinus divergence is thought to be by allopatric speciation (Malay & Paulay 2010). Colourpattern evolves rapidly with Calcinusand it is seen as a visual adaptation to species recognition and mateselection, in addition ecological factors are important to the speciesdistribution and speciation (Malay & Paulay 2010). C. guamensis along with C.vachoni are one of the later evolving species within the genus (Malay & Paulay 2010).
