Biogeographic distribution

E. diaphanis has a central Indo-Pacific distribution and was first found in Indonesia and described by Sluiter in 1885. Since then it has been recorded in the Australian states of Queensland, Northern Territory and New South Wales, and Palau Island, Micronesia(Kott, 1985). The majority of the records for this species are found within the Great Barrier Reef.
