Biogeographic distribution

R. graeffei spans a wide latitudinal range, stretching from the east coast of Australia (chiefly in Queensland on the Great Barrier Reef) up to Japan, and is spread throughout the tropical western Pacific, from the Indo-Malay region to east Africa (Tilbrook, Hayward & Gordon 2001).

Members of the genus Reteporella are also found in Antarctia along the continental shelf, with new species still being described (Figuerola et al. 2013).
