A number of gaps currently exist in information regarding the specific phylogenetic structure ofThalacea (Govindarajanet al., 2010). A number of conflicting hypothesis have been proposed for the evolution of the Thaliaceans, a number of which questioning the monophyly of the group and their relationship with ascidians. The phylogenetic model presented here (fig 1) is based upon the gut structure of different thaliacean lineages , and reflects the most current work presented by (Govindarajanet al., 2010).
