Size
Turban snails (Family: Turbindae) have shells that are medium to large in size, ranging from the large turbinate shell of Turbo crassus (8.5cm in length on average) to the medium sized shell of Turbo bruneus (3cm in length on average). The four specimen of Turbo undulatus found on the Heron Island reef crest, however, have lengths that are relatively smaller compared to other Turban shells on literature (Potter and Short, 1987). The largest Turban snail can grow up to about 20cm in length (Kuiter, 2003).
The average length of the four specimens of Turbo undulatus collected from the reef crest of Heron Island is 2.3cm.
The weights of the four specimens of Turbo undulatus was measured on heron Island with a weighing scale. Their weights (in grams) is shown below:
