Fossil History

The family Strombidae has a very long and well-studied fossil record (WoRMS 2011). They appeared in the Upper Cretaceous, but became frequent and diversified in the Eocene Fossil (Savazzi 1997). Today, strombid species occopy similar biogeographical regions as their ancestors did (Savazzi 1997).
