Size
The Trochus niloticus can reach 15cm across the base of the shell (Pakoa et al, 2008).
According to Chambers (2007) they are allowed to be harvested when they are between 8cm- 12cm although there are calls to relax these size restrictions to make harvests more economically viable in some areas. On the other hand T. niloticus stocks have been depleted over extensive areas due to unsustainable management (Dolorosa et al, 2010) so this plea is unlikely to eventuate. |
