GENOME SEQUENCE

Genome sequencing allows gained insight into the origin and evolution of a species (Ingham, P.W, Nakano, Y, Seger, C 2011). Sponge genomes are important as they are considered as one of the earliest branching metazoans, and due to their allorecognition make a good comparative model to other metazoan (Degnan et al. 2008). The genome sequence of the A.queenslandica genome is well assessed in the paper,“The Amphimedon queenslandica genome and the evolution of animal complexity” by Srivastava et al. in 2010.
