Body Morphology

The soft body of the spider conch is divided into 4 main regions: the head, which protrudes anteriorly from the shell and holds the eye-stalks and proboscis; the foot, a muscular ventral organ with a flattened base and pointed operculum used for locomotion; the visceral mass, which fills dorsally the spire of the shell, and contains most organ systems; the mantle, a collar-like tegument which lines and secretes the shell, and forms a mantle cavity.
