Local Distribution and Habitats

On the Great Barrier Reef, distribution range of the blue sea stars reaches as far south as the Heron Island (23° S). It does not, however, occur in the Torres Strait nor the west of it (Clark 1946).

Habitats
L. laevigata is a sea star species that associates with coral reefs. It is commonly found in abundant number on the reef flats (Williams & Benzie 1998). This species also occur in lagoons, reef crests, coral rubble banks, and algal ridges (Laxton 1974; Thompson & Thompson 1982).
