Biofouling invertebrates inhabit built structures, including boat hulls and jetty pilings. Many of these animals are deemed to be pests or invasive species, although this is not always the case. Settlement plates set around Heron Island Reef, Moreton Bay and in local boat harbours (e.g. Manly Harbour) became colonised over two to four months. In all cases the invertebrates inhabiting these plates were a mixture of well-known invasive and local species.
