C. tigris is found throughout the Indo-Pacific, from the Eastern Coast of Africa to the Eastern Coast of Australia and out to French Polynesia (Burgess 1986). Along the Australian coast it can be found from northern Western Australia, to Northern New South Wales as well as Heron and Lord Howe Island. It is also found along the east coast of Africa including Madagascar (Poutiers 1998). The largest cowries are found in the coastal waters of Hawaii (Smithsonian 2011).
