Diet and Feeding
Most are thought to be omnivorous, feeding predominantly on sponges, bryozoans and algae (Besley et al. 1998). In captivity they have been observed to feed on the flesh of fish or bivalves (Kay 1985).
Like most gastropods, they cowry possess a radula, which is a chitonous tooth with which they are able to scrape or cut at food with. This behaviour can be observed in the video below.The radula is located in the anterior part of the mouth and is able to protrude when the tip of the proboscis is applied to a particular food item (Walls 1987).
