While no records of micro-habitats exist for
Rhabdastrella globostellata, like many sponge species it holds a wealth of bacterial symbionts within its tissues (Lafi et al., 2005; Lafi et al., 2009). Thomas et al. (2010) published a comprehensive review on drugs produced from marine sponge-microbe interactions, including therapeutically important compounds. Sponge host a multitude of microbes within their tissues, producing a range of chemicals for defence and as secondary metabolites (discussed
here) (Thomas et al., 2010).
