Cyclicity

While there are no records listing the life cycle of Rhabdastrella globostellata in particular, its parent order Astrophorida has been studied to some extent. All Astrophorida, except for Alectona and Thoosa, are considered to be oviparous, with asexual reproduction common throughout the order (Cardenas, 2010). Sexual reproduction in sponges can occur via broadcast spawning, with gametes of both sexes released directly into the water column, or spermcast spawning with the only the male gametes being released and the female gametes being retained within a brood chamber where fertilisation occurs (Ruppert et al., 2004). Reproductive cycle and larval stages is unknown.
