Size

Stenopus hispidus's body may attain a lenght of 9 centimeters. However it is more common that they reacher 7 to 8 centimeters.

Experiment have been conducted on S. hispidus to investigate the effect of body size on several life-history parameters (Brandon et al, 2003). they found that:
- Preceding maturation, mortality is size-dependent; smaller individuals experience higher mortality rates.
- Molt interval and the growth increment are also size-dependent.  Smaller shrimp molt more often. Also growth of increments first increase but then decrease as body size increases.
- Larval settlement of S. hispidus is size-dependent. Settlement onto the benthic habitat consistently happen when larvae reach a size of approximately 17mm.
-At age, growth begins to decelerate, as reproduction starts (approximately 30mm).
