Distribution

T. Niloticus is found on tropical reefs, particularly on the reef flat in the eastern Indian and Pacific Ocean. This area stretches from Sri Lanka eastwards to Wallis Island. Laterally they are found from southern Japan down to the southern Great Barrier Reef in Australia (Castell, 1997).

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,  they tend to inhabit the windward side of the reef, but can be found on the leeward side in intertidal zones and shallow sub- tidal zones.

Below shows the reef- flat environment this species inhabits.
