Local Distribution and Habitats
Observations on Heron Reef in Australia suggest the local distribution of Cryptoplax larvaeformis is isolated to the reef crest. A study by Austin el al (1980) also found Cryptoplax larvaeformis on the reef crest at Heron Island, further validating these observations. However in the same study by Austin el al (1980), they also found Cryptoplax larvaeformis in coral located on the outer edges of the lagoon on Heron Reef, suggesting further studies are needed to obtain local distributions of Cryptoplax larvaeformis of Heron reef, Australia.
Through observations and literature Cryptoplax larvaeformis were found in holes and crevices of overturned, dead coral heads on the Reef crest. Cryptoplax larvaeformis were also seen to ocupy live Pocillopora damicornis coral heads on the reef crest and on the outer edges of the lagoon area (Austin et al 1980). |
