SIZE AND COLOUR

Filograna implexa has a reddish orange body which is contained in a translucent white tube, from which it extends an elaborate display of transparent or orange based colour tentacles (Van Nieuwenhuijzen, 2011).

Though visible with naked eye, individuals of F. implexa are best observed in detail under a microscope.  They grow approximately 0.4 – 0.5 cm in length with a diameter no more than 500 µm (Richards, 2008; Pernet, 2001).  Together hundreds and thousands of individuals may be seen in a compact three dimensional calcareous network of tubes of more than 30 cm in width (Glasby, 2000).
