Local Distribution and Habitats

J. funebris
can be found in reef lagoons, in 1 to 5 meters of water. An example of such a location is Heron platform reef in Queensland, Australia (23°26’26’’ S 151°54’51’’). On the Heron platform reef, dotted nudibranchs can be found from directly out front of HIRS, moving south-eastwards to western side of Shark Bay.

J. funebris are usually found on sand. This is probably because they are most visually obvious at such times. When found on sandy substrates, the nudibranchs are probably moving between coral clumps.

It is unknown is J. funebris exist beyond reef crest. Populations of this nudibranch seem to have clumped distributions, but this prediction is yet untested. Transect work will help to determine the local distribution of this animal.
