Feeding

Within the Cypraeidae family, there are two main feeding divisions. One group feed on sponges (Wilson & McComb,1969) while others are herbivores feeding on plants and algae, though some feed on both. The gold ring cowry is a relatively generalist feeder in warm and shallow oceans (Foin 1979). As a littoral mollusc and a gastropod, the gold ring cowry has a regionalised gut within the mantle, with digestive cecae and an anterior buccal cavity/mouth that houses a radula. This radula is located within the mouth protrudes from the anterior end and is a ribbon shaped tongue covered with microscopic rasping teeth.
