Size

Eriphia sebana are stockily built, with a deep carapace and thick appendages. Sexually dimorphic in size, E. sebana males typically grow to a carapace length of between 39.2mm and 57mm with a breadth of 51.8mm to 76mm; females are not quite as large, growing to a length of approximately 36mm and breadth of 46mm (Dai and Yang 1991). The family Eriphoidea, of which E. sebana is a part of, exhibit asymmetrical anterior claws; the larger of these can grow up to 35mm from the base of the palm to the tip of the dactyl. The most common sizes for E. sebana as recorded at Heron Island were approximately 65mm along the breadth of the carapace.
