Colour & Texture

As seen in Figure 2, the dorsal side the, H. impatiens is grayish brown in colour with random blotches of black scattered horizontally down its body. In juvenile forms (less than 70mm long) the black blotches are more distinct (Vanden Berghe and Hansson 2011). The ventral side is generally grey. Its body is covered in conical warts from which filamentous appendages emerge. These warts are pinkish brown on the dorsal side and a pale white on the ventral side.

The skin is rough to touch and the warts are quite firm, which helps to distinguish this species from Holothuria Mertensiothuria which tends to share similar characteristics with the H. impatiens.
