Behaviour

H. impatiens is a solitary animal, however more than one individual can be found sharing the same coral appendage (James 2001). Depending on geographical location, this species spends its days hidden within reef flats, coral rubble or seagrass. It only feeds at night, and accomplishes this by extending its anterior end to the closest possible sand patch.
