Micro-habitats and Associations

The micro-habitat under rocks and in small crevices where the elephant snail hides during the day provides a number of advantages. These advantages include protection from predation and UV radiation while maintaining sufficient water flow for respiration. Without these day time refuges, the elephant slug would likely face heavy predation due to its slow moving natural and lack of defence (apart from its shell).
