Brief Summary
The strawberry stromb (Strombus luhuanus) is a marine gastropod, belonging to the Strombidae family, which consists of five genera and 75 species (Berg, 1974). It is found throughout the tropical and sub-tropical Indo-Pacific region in sandy habitats that are associated with coral reefs (Catterall and Poiner, 1983). It is a herbivorous animal that feeds primarily on filamentous macroalgae (Savazzi, 1991). The shell of S. luhuanus is conical, and closely resembles that of a cone shell. They have well developed eyes and an acute sense of vision, along with a highly flexible and muscularised foot, which allows for the unique 'leaping' movement displayed by strombid gastropods (Berg, 1974).
