Size

The size of the Scaley Turban (Turbo perspeciosus) varies significantly within the Heron Island region (see figure 1), and therefore it is likely that size also varies throughout its global distribution also. This is possibly a result of the specific diets of individuals or the different habitat variables to which an animal is exposed (temperature, light, and substrate type, structure and availability). Regardless, observations made on Heron Island indicate that relative to other Gastropod species, the Scaley Turban is generally a rather large species.
