Molecular Biology

Herdmania momus exhibits several features contributing to its favourability for molecular study, these have been listed by Degnan (1991) as year round fecundity, ability to be sampled and maintained with ease, high fertilisation success in the laboratory, coloured and therefore easily discernible cytoplasms appearing during development, rapid embryonic development and similarity of cell lineages with other ascidians. These favourable traits have resulted in a vast number of enlightening studies performed on the molecular biology of this species, some of which are included in the bibliographies page of this site or can be found by searching google scholar
