T. bayeri is a moderately large Sacoglossan. Usual length of adult Thuridilla bayeri can range between 12 to 20 mm. However, they can grow up to 26 mm in length. The average size of the slugs collected from Heron Island in September 2011 was 15.4 mm. The smallest one sampled was 7 mm. believe to be at a juvenile stage. The largest one is up to 19 mm in length.

T. bayeri can often be confused with T. splendens as with a large blue spots, however, T. splendens.  is larger and yellow pigmentation on the base of the rhinophores and outsides of the parapodia always presents.
