H. leucospilota is a large species of sea cucumber, growing on average between 15-50cm.  The mean adult length of the species is about 35cm and the average juvenile length is between 1.5cm and 3.5cm (Taquet et al. 2011).

Generally H. leucospilota have long, cylindrical bodies, which are small in diameter in contrast to body length.   However, when disturbed or moved from their benthic habitat, the body becomes bloated and swollen.
